boston week: part one!
Dec. 24th, 2012 04:32 am
Welcome to Boston, Massachusetts! We hope you've found your accommodations to your liking. It's Christmas week, so the streets are bustling along nicely, the trees are up, and decorations line Faneuil Hall. No snow just yet, but we hope you like the 30°F weather! (Might want to bundle up.)
Even around this time of year, there's much to be done in the city -- take a gander at some of the potential attractions on your brochure and get out there to go enjoy the sights!
((Host note: I'm starting the week off easy with a general RP, but come Wednesday, expect a new post with -- gasp -- tasks! Unfortunately, I just won't be a stable enough presence to maintain what I have planned until then. So for now, get settled in and have fun!
Feel free to go all around the city -- I've outlined/summarized some key areas to hit up in the list up there. If you're stumped on somewhere to go, hit up the mod thread and I'll make sure to point you in the right direction!))

Date: 2012-12-28 11:55 pm (UTC)They do different things. Eat a lot, see their friends and families. Some people go to church. They wait for Santa Claus, if they have little children.
Oh! I haven't wrapped your gift yet!
*pouts*

*laughs softly, kissing her pouted lips*
Do you...want me to go get a lot of food? And you can wrap the gift and then I can come back and we can eat and...well, we can eat a lot.

Date: 2012-12-29 12:26 am (UTC)It's been fun so far. Presents, food, you...And there are traditions and things of mine I show you. I never sang Deep in the Meadow for you, did I?

Date: 2012-12-29 12:46 am (UTC)I'd like that.
We...I guess we don't have the same kind of holidays, since we don't know about God. We usually just had small celebrations to go with the seasons. And the Reaping...thy treated that like a celebration...
*frowns for a moment, but it quickly passes and he smiles again*
And there's one very important ceremony I can't wait to show you.

Date: 2012-12-29 01:07 am (UTC)Mmhmm. The harvest ceremony was kind of like Thanksgiving, I think. We just had a larger dinner, except it was earlier, when the kids would go off to school. And the first warm day of spring, lots of kids would go out and go swimming in the lake.
*his cheeks twinge pink and he looks down*
The...the toasting. People in District 12 couldn't really afford big wedding ceremonies, so when they wanted to get married, they would get a loaf of bread and toast it together in a little, personal ceremony. Some merchant people would have a small family ceremony, but you weren't really married until you had a toasting...

Date: 2012-12-29 01:22 am (UTC)I like swimming too. We should do that when it's warm enough. That will be fun.
*smiles wide, excited*
You want to do that too? Really? I know other people don't do things like that but...it's important to me...Yeah, just the two of us. Kind of saying we are going to share everything from now on and something about the burning fire. Something nice like that.

Mmhmm. That's really the point of the toasting...it's not flashy, it's just real simple...intimate. We...we used to make this special bread, a special braided roll, for toastings. It was a special occasion for some people to even have bread at all, so we tried to make something good for them.

Date: 2012-12-29 02:23 am (UTC)Yeah! I can. I can make any kind of bread we want and just braid it. We usually just made classic Italian roll, but I can do anything. It's easy to break off that way, to make for a nice way to eat it slowly and just talk by the fire.

Date: 2012-12-29 03:02 am (UTC)Well, there's a poppyseed roll, which is almost the same, but with seeds on top. A grain roll, which has some whole grains and a few nuts in it. An onion roll has onions, but just on top usually. Then there's a roll that has berries in it, usually blueberries and raspberries, or just one of each.

Date: 2012-12-29 06:17 am (UTC)Yes! Definitely. We can order the best cranberries from wherever they have cranberries. I wonder if we can get fresh walnuts...and then the trick to that bread is to add a hint of orange. That makes it taste absolutely fantastic!

Thank you. Sorry...you don't want to hear about bread...

Date: 2012-12-29 07:10 am (UTC)I like baking...and I like talking about it with you. Or...well, I like telling you about it.
*smiles sweetly and nods*
Mmhmm, I can. Right now? Or do you want all that food first?

Date: 2012-12-29 07:31 am (UTC)You may end up looking like bread. Fair warning.
*runs his fingers thoroughly through her hair, just playing with it now*
I love your hair...
