*nods slightly. She sees a black open sweater that she can wear to keep her arms warm and points to it* What about that since it's sleeveless? Does that go?

*nods* Okay...but...umm...no sparkles.

*is really enjoying having another girl around. it reminds her of Maggie...before...in the few times she wasn't being a brat over Maggie not being her mother, or taking her mother's place. If she could go back now...*

*after they pay, walking to the other store* How's the...pregnancy coming along? I guess they aren't as scary here as they were after the Blackout. People said that you would go to the hospital and there were drugs to make it easier...whole teams of people to help if there were complications.

In our village we had two people with some form of training who did their best, but it still seemed.... *makes a face*

I don't think I'd want to try it.

So far, so good. We do have doctors and things here, but honestly, it isn't necessarily any safer than it is with a midwife. I did the research. There are drugs that can make it hurt less, but once you're drugged, you're not a participant; you're a patient.

And it's still a scary prospect either way, really. Because, you know, it's childbirth. And even with sophisticated medicine, you can still have complications and die. It happens all the time.

*spots the denim boutique*

Here we go. *tugs Charlie across the street*

*looks around* I see what you mean about the sparkles....

So...aren't you scared? *she looks like she's worried about Kate all of a sudden, thinking it was safer here and realizing it isn't*

A little, yeah. I'd have to be crazy not to be. But the flip side of the danger is that millions of women every day have babies with no problems at all, and it's more likely that I'll be one of them. If I spent all my time worrying about all the things that could go wrong, I'd never have any time to live my life.

*picks some jeans off the rack*

Try these on.

Braver than me... *rolls her eyes and then smirks, taking the jeans to try on* At least these I know how to get in and out of...

*comes out in the first pair* No sparkles. *peers behind her* Works for me. What do you think, Kate?
