Kate Kane/Batwoman

Kate Kane is the Goddamn Batwoman, and is everything that comes with that. Investigative, smart, resourceful, could kick the shit out of you with her hands tied behind her back -- etc. She's probably in her late twenties.

Coming from a military background, Kate went to West Point herself, only to be found out as gay and kicked out. Her family is one of the richest of Gotham, owning that which the Waynes do not. Kate, her sister Beth, and their mother were all taken hostage when Kate was twelve, and before they could be rescued, Beth and her mother were killed.

After being denied from the military, Kate spent a good deal of time directionless. She spent most of her time drunk until she met Batman after having been attacked by and taking down a mugger, inspiring her to take up the cowl herself. She spent a year of intensive training before returning to Gotham to take up the mantle, her father heavily involved in the process.

In Batwoman: Elegy, Kate takes on a villain named Alice, who is killed in the final struggle. It's revealed that Beth, her sister, wasn't killed when she was twelve, but was instead brainwashed and turned into Alice. Her father had hid Beth's survival from Kate to protect her, resulting in a major fallout between the two.
