Explanation via [livejournal.com profile] thewonderkitten:

We have a Claim Post! It can be updated whenever. People can claim as many damn people as they want to. It's largely to have a sense of organization and make sure we don't have fifteen different Stileses running around.

So like let's say. "Phase" (for lack of a better word) starts -- I decide I'd really like to play an elephant, Nicki Minaj, and my left shoe. So I hop right in there the start of the phase and claim 'em.

A few weeks later, I decide I'm really shit at RPing my left shoe. I don't want to play it anymore. I would, however, really like to play Dani's bra collection and the whole cast of Urinetown. So I go back to that claim post, remove my left shoe from my claim, and add Dani's bra collection and the whole cast of Urinetown. I can do this at any time throughout the phase because goodness knows we get sick of characters or want to break out new characters every five seconds or so.

At the end of like... a month or so, we scrub that motherfucker clean and everyone has to go in and reclaim characters. So if I was playing Nicki Minaj last phase, you are totally welcome to claim her for this phase and we can cycle through characters that way.

Guidelines for each new phase: We're leaving it up to you to decide, but please try to leave your characters that you believe are popular (i.e. the ones that are played most often in mafia or the ones most quickly snatched up) to be claimed by someone else. Maybe wait a day and if they aren't claimed, you can claim them again. Also, as soon as I mark you on the spreadsheet, I will link you to a new bios post (to be made shortly), so please try to fill that out with all of your characters so people can refer to it to get a feel of your characters.

However, this doesn't mean everyone has to wipe their slate clean, they can if they want. It's just a good way of knocking out inactive characters and letting people have a shot at playing previously claimed characters.

Suggestions for you: These are just suggestions and not requirements. Just some things that will help everyone involved. When you are claiming, or reclaiming, please try to include full name/full fandom. I, unfortunately, am not Google personified and I'm not sure whether X-Men and XMFC are the same fandom. Also, if there are different adaptations, please try to clarify which one you are using. For example, instead of saying Sherlock, say Sherlock (BBC) or Sherlock (2009 film). Also, for reclaiming, please try to just reclaim your most active ones at the beginning of the phase. If you have some that you don't play very much, maybe it'll be good to let someone else have a try.

Announcement: We have used the same bio post for a couple of phases, so I will be creating a new one for this phase. This is how it will continue. Every two phases, a new bio post will be created. Now, I know that you guys don't put bios for all of your characters, and I am the same. It is not required. But perhaps, from now on, if you do put bios, put them for the characters that you have that are more headcanon than canon. Also, the lesser known characters might need bios too. :)

Who is your character? How old are they? Are they in a relationship or are they looking for fun? What's some of their history -- that may or may not be fandom canon, but has now become canon? Etc.

Drop off your character bios here. Feel free to make it as short or as long as you want to. Don't forget to mention what fandom your character is from.

Please create a new comment for each character. And of course, as things change, you can either edit your comment or reply to your own comment with additions/updates.

Hello everyone. I'm Dr. David Sawyer and this is my fiance, Bryan Collins, who would probably kill me if I didn't mention his television show, "Sing," which you should all definitely watch. It airs... sometime. On a channel. I should know those things.

Contrary to what the picture above suggests, we live in sunny Los Angeles, and you are ALL invited to our house for a Holiday party! Bryan has everything set up - the food is catered, the drinks are free, and everyone is welcome.

There are just a few house rules.

1. Be careful of the turkeys in the backyard. They do bite.

2. This is the bed I share with my fiance:

Please DO NOT have sex in or on or NEAR it. There's a guest house with multiple guest rooms for that.

(If you're interested in seeing more of the house, here are some pictures.)

And that's all there is to it. If you have any questions, Shania or I will be happy to answer them. If you're interested in seeing more of Los Angeles and less of our party (or if you're one of those people who isn't comfortable going to a party being hosted by strangers), there will be a thread for Shania to give you touristy advice.

This party will run for the entire span of the week, though it's all really in one night. We might post some activities day to day for people who enjoy a bit of direction, but this is mostly a place for everyone to come together and mingle. Get to know people you've never met, enjoy your friends and family. Eat, drink, and be merry... and please don't trash my house!

Hey guys! We just had some quick mod notes in regards to some stuff about the community. Please give it a look over, and if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM this account and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!

1. Please do not label your threads as specifically for another person only. We know that people want to RP with certain characters and certain RP partners, but we would really like to try to leave CFB as open as possible. You can gear your threads toward other characters, naturally, but try to keep yourself open to the possibility of new roleplay.

Think of it this way: Every thread is an open thread. But just because you can burst into your brother’s room while he’s sexing up his girlfriend, doesn’t mean you should. If a character starts a thread mid-conversation with another character in a private location, you probably shouldn’t burst into that thread. But if a character starts a thread waiting by the bar for another character in a public location, there’s no reason why another character can’t strike up a conversation until the character of interest arrives.

We just ask you to leave yourselves open somehow, either via an open thread or via comments to other people, to maintain the group atmosphere of CFB, instead of simply individual threads. This not only lends the possibility for new roleplay for yourself and people you may not have thought to roleplay with previously, but also leaves the door open to new roleplayers who are trying to build up relationships where they currently have none. Just be openminded to new roleplay! It should go without saying. :]

2. Within eight hours of the claims post going up, 178 characters have been claimed. Considering the purpose of the monthly claims post is to allow the rotation of characters, this seems excessive to us. Please remember that the claims system was implemented to allow players a chance to play characters that they would otherwise not be able to if we had a more permanent claims system.

For this reason, from here on out, we will be implementing a new restriction on the claims post: Within the first 48 hours, each player will only be allowed to claim fewer than ten characters. We hope that this both allows players to hold onto their favorites while leaving room for other players to have a chance. It also should allow people from different time zones to have more of an opportunity to claim the characters they otherwise might not be able to.

This restriction does not apply to today’s claim post, but we would like to ask you to consider how many of your characters you intend to actively play, and consider whom you might be willing to let others have a chance to if they so desire. If you would be willing to drop a few / several characters to leave them open to others, we would appreciate that. If no-one claims the characters and you still find you want to play them later, you can feel free to claim them later. Not every character needs to be claimed all at once; the claims post is open throughout the phase.

3. Chat has been a little quiet lately, so we wanted to take the opportunity to remind you that it is there! Password is owemecrack.

Care to host an event or a weekend post? This is the post for you!

Here is the hosting calendar for 2012, and here is the new beautiful -- seriously take a look at this sonuvabitch calendar for 2013! You might notice that it is very empty. That's where you guys come in!

To sign up for a hosting week, comment here with the date you would like. Please make sure to comment here with the exact date! You can say you'd like something around a general time, but I can't promise to hold onto it for you indefinitely. And although I'll certainly try to remember when I'm told a date outside of this post, honestly, with my memory, please make sure to post your dates in here as well so I can keep track of you.

Because there wasn't room for phase numbers on this sheet, you'll notice that phases are done by color! The darkest color is the last week of the phase, with the lightest marking the first week. Phase 5 turns into the Green Phase about midway through. :P

New this year: Starting in 2013, in addition to my regular heads up PM the week before your hosting comes up, I'll also be asking you to tell me what you have planned for your week. For example, whether you have tasks, the mechanics, etc. It's really just a way for the mods to keep up on what's going on on the off chance we'd have some suggestions for you.

Anyway, if you check out the suggestion post, we've got some nifty ideas over there for some games to run. Or just make your own things up! Do whatever your damn heart desires. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
