modly stuff
Dec. 16th, 2012 10:02 pmHey guys! We just had some quick mod notes in regards to some stuff about the community. Please give it a look over, and if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM this account and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!
1. Please do not label your threads as specifically for another person only. We know that people want to RP with certain characters and certain RP partners, but we would really like to try to leave CFB as open as possible. You can gear your threads toward other characters, naturally, but try to keep yourself open to the possibility of new roleplay.
Think of it this way: Every thread is an open thread. But just because you can burst into your brother’s room while he’s sexing up his girlfriend, doesn’t mean you should. If a character starts a thread mid-conversation with another character in a private location, you probably shouldn’t burst into that thread. But if a character starts a thread waiting by the bar for another character in a public location, there’s no reason why another character can’t strike up a conversation until the character of interest arrives.
We just ask you to leave yourselves open somehow, either via an open thread or via comments to other people, to maintain the group atmosphere of CFB, instead of simply individual threads. This not only lends the possibility for new roleplay for yourself and people you may not have thought to roleplay with previously, but also leaves the door open to new roleplayers who are trying to build up relationships where they currently have none. Just be openminded to new roleplay! It should go without saying. :]
2. Within eight hours of the claims post going up, 178 characters have been claimed. Considering the purpose of the monthly claims post is to allow the rotation of characters, this seems excessive to us. Please remember that the claims system was implemented to allow players a chance to play characters that they would otherwise not be able to if we had a more permanent claims system.
For this reason, from here on out, we will be implementing a new restriction on the claims post: Within the first 48 hours, each player will only be allowed to claim fewer than ten characters. We hope that this both allows players to hold onto their favorites while leaving room for other players to have a chance. It also should allow people from different time zones to have more of an opportunity to claim the characters they otherwise might not be able to.
This restriction does not apply to today’s claim post, but we would like to ask you to consider how many of your characters you intend to actively play, and consider whom you might be willing to let others have a chance to if they so desire. If you would be willing to drop a few / several characters to leave them open to others, we would appreciate that. If no-one claims the characters and you still find you want to play them later, you can feel free to claim them later. Not every character needs to be claimed all at once; the claims post is open throughout the phase.
3. Chat has been a little quiet lately, so we wanted to take the opportunity to remind you that it is there! Password is owemecrack.

Date: 2012-12-17 03:06 am (UTC)This hilariouses me.
Question that anyone can answer: I'm not sure how to judge which characters are popular and which aren't. I'm pretty sure most of mine aren't, because they aren't picked up when I drop them, but I'm not sure on others. I want to be able to give people a chance at the popular ones though... How do you judge that for your own characters?

Date: 2012-12-17 03:13 am (UTC)I'm going to keep who I have for now, because I dropped characters between last month and this month and only claimed the ones I'm in the middle of established relationship stuff with, but I'll be sure to go easier on it early on next month.

Date: 2012-12-17 03:14 am (UTC)And yeah, what Dani said. Think currently-airing shows, active fandoms, that sort of thing. It's really subjective. And really, at this point, I'm not sure it's so much a popularity issue, more the mass quantity of characters being claimed immediately. It gets to a point where there's just not much left over.
